Anduril Founder Touts AI Weapons to Deter China Over Taiwan

Anduril Industries, a U.S. defense technology company, is betting that autonomous systems, distributed sensors and artificial intelligence will reshape military deterrence. Founder Palmer Luckey argues that large numbers of rapidly deployable, unmanned platforms can raise the cost and uncertainty of an attack. The approach has particular significance in the Taiwan Strait, where such technology could supplement conventional forces and complicate China’s military planning.

Luckey said recently that Anduril is working to strengthen deterrence around Taiwan through at least two types of capabilities: unmanned undersea vehicles and satellite-based systems equipped with an “AI brain.” He described robotic warfare and AI-enabled weapons as long-term battlefield trends. The objective, he said, is not to provoke a conflict but to make the expected cost of invading Taiwan so high that Beijing concludes the island is not worth attacking.
