GitHub Adds Early Support for Stateless MCP

The Model Context Protocol, or MCP, is an open standard for connecting AI applications with external tools and data sources. Remote MCP services previously relied on initialization procedures and session affinity, making it harder for load balancers to distribute traffic across servers. GitHub’s move matters because removing that state at the protocol layer can simplify deployment, scaling and maintenance for developers building remotely hosted AI integrations.

GitHub’s MCP server has now added early support for the new stateless specification, allowing requests to be routed freely among different servers without session binding or protocol-level initialization. Tier 1 SDKs with the capability are available in beta and retain backward compatibility, easing upgrades for existing applications. GitHub has not disclosed a general-availability date, upgrade pricing or an investment amount tied to the rollout.
