Meta’s Zuckerberg Pitches AI to Empower People, Not Replace Them
Meta renamed itself from Facebook in 2021 to underscore its metaverse ambitions, but sustained losses at Reality Labs have kept investors focused on the company’s next growth engine. As competition in generative AI intensifies, Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg is positioning “personal superintelligence” as Meta’s new platform bet. He argues that AI should help individuals create, connect, pursue goals and exercise greater agency, rather than concentrate power in systems built to automate economically valuable work.
Zuckerberg published the vision on July 30, 2025, shortly before Meta released its second-quarter results, pledging to make personal superintelligence broadly accessible and identifying AI glasses as a primary interface. Meta reported quarterly revenue of $47.52 billion, up 22% from a year earlier, and net income of $18.34 billion. It narrowed its 2025 capital-spending forecast to $66 billion to $72 billion, highlighting the scale of infrastructure investment behind the strategy.
