Regions Financial Profit Rises on Strong Commercial Lending
Regions Financial is a major regional bank in the southeastern United States whose earnings are heavily influenced by loan demand, deposit costs and interest margins. Corporate borrowing appetite recovered after the Federal Reserve cut rates by 75 basis points in the second half of 2025. Whether commercial loan growth translates into stable net interest income is an important gauge of regional banks’ business outlook and asset quality.
Regions Financial said on April 17, 2026, that first-quarter net income available to common shareholders rose 16% from a year earlier to $539 million for the period ended March 31. Net interest income increased 4.5% to $1.248 billion. Commercial loans at quarter-end grew 4.3% from the previous quarter to $65.733 billion, while the provision for credit losses fell to $91 million. John Turner said asset quality had improved and the balance-sheet repositioning was complete.
