Liminal Secures Taiwan AML Registration as First Foreign Crypto Custodian
Taiwan’s anti-money laundering registration regime for virtual asset service providers took effect on Nov. 30, 2024, bringing digital-asset custody and wallet management under the Financial Supervisory Commission’s oversight and barring unregistered providers from operating. Compliant custody is critical infrastructure for banks, brokerages and corporations entering crypto markets, addressing asset segregation, governance and transaction-monitoring risks while laying the groundwork for a broader licensing system.
The FSC said on Sept. 3, 2026, that Liminal Custody’s Taiwan subsidiary and Taiwan Steel Digital Asset Management had completed AML registration, raising the number of registered VASPs to 10 from eight. Liminal Taiwan becomes the first foreign-backed custody and wallet infrastructure provider to secure the status. The company plans to deepen partnerships with local institutions and pursue a formal VASP license as Taiwan advances its regulatory framework.
