Xiaomi Hires Former DeepSeek Researcher Luo Fuli, Unveils MiMo Model Progress

2 reports · First detected 2026-03-20 · Last active 2026-03-20

Luo Fuli, a former DeepSeek deep-learning researcher who worked on DeepSeek-V2, formally announced on Nov. 12, 2025, that she had joined Xiaomi’s MiMo team. Market speculation had suggested Xiaomi founder Lei Jun recruited her with an annual salary of tens of millions of yuan, though the figure was never officially confirmed. The hire reflects Xiaomi’s push to expand its AI efforts beyond on-device smartphone capabilities and into core Agent and AGI research.

Xiaomi launched MiMo-V2-Pro, Omni and TTS on March 18, 2026. Pro has 1T total parameters and 42B active parameters, uses a hybrid architecture combining Global Attention and SWA at a 1:7 ratio, and supports a context window of 1 million tokens. Luo said on April 24 that leading models can already operate autonomously for two to three days and identified “self-evolution” as the key AGI development over the coming year.
