Trump Administration Commits $5 Billion to AI-Driven Genesis Mission

President Donald Trump launched the Genesis Mission by executive order in November 2025, putting the White House and Department of Energy at the center of a government-wide effort to use artificial intelligence to accelerate scientific discovery. The initiative is intended to link federal supercomputers, datasets and research facilities through a shared platform, while recasting U.S. science policy around mission-driven work in AI, robotics and nuclear energy. Its scale makes it a major test of whether that approach can raise research productivity without weakening support for basic science.

On July 22, 2026, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios announced more than $5 billion in federal commitments from over 15 agencies and 278 selected projects led by national laboratories, universities and industry partners. The funding covers research awards, specialized datasets, computing resources and facilities linked through the Energy Department’s American Science and Security Platform. Participating agencies include NASA, the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, broadening Genesis from an Energy Department effort into a government-wide program.
