Samsung Reportedly Secures Anthropic AI Chip Foundry Order

With TSMC's advanced-process capacity fully booked, bottlenecks in AI chip supply are forcing companies to seek a second foundry source. Anthropic is reportedly planning to develop an in-house chip to reduce its reliance on a single supplier. If the partnership materializes, it would be a key test of Samsung's ability to provide a one-stop service spanning chip foundry manufacturing, high-bandwidth memory and advanced packaging. It could also have far-reaching implications for the global chip market.

Anthropic announced on May 28, 2026, that it had completed a $65 billion Series H funding round and named Samsung as a strategic infrastructure partner. Industry reports subsequently said the two companies were discussing foundry production of Anthropic's custom 2-nanometer AI chip. Anthropic has recently hired former OpenAI engineer Clive Chan to lead the effort and accelerate the project, indicating that its chip development is moving into a concrete planning phase.
