1Password Launches Zero-Exposure Access for Claude Agents

As AI agent technology advances rapidly, AI can now perform complex web tasks on users’ behalf. But securely authorizing it to log into accounts while protecting sensitive credentials has become a top cybersecurity challenge. Giving AI access to passwords has traditionally created serious privacy exposure. A mechanism that lets agents complete tasks without allowing passwords to be stolen is therefore crucial to the broader adoption of AI assistants.

Password manager 1Password partnered with Anthropic in July 2026 to launch a zero-exposure access mechanism designed for Claude agents. The feature includes an agent mode that automatically locks the vault when AI takes control of the browser. The initial functionality went live on July 18 and currently supports only the Chrome extension on Mac and the Claude desktop app, with access initially limited to login credentials.
