Kraken Launches U.S. Crypto Debit Card With Bitcoin Rewards
Founded in 2011, Kraken built its business as a cryptocurrency exchange but has increasingly pushed into mainstream financial services through Krak, its consumer money app. Linking digital-asset balances directly to a debit card removes the need to sell crypto and transfer the proceeds before making a purchase. The move also puts Kraken parent Payward into closer competition with U.S. payments and investing platforms including Venmo, Cash App and Robinhood.
Kraken launched the Krak Card in the United States on Aug. 18, 2026. Issued by Missouri-based Lead Bank on the Visa network and powered by Stripe’s card-issuing technology, it lets customers spend from more than 600 crypto and fiat balances, with assets converted into dollars at checkout. Users can receive rewards in U.S. dollars or Bitcoin. New cardholders get 2% cash back for 30 days; afterward, the rate depends on average assets held over 30 days, with $50,000 required to retain the top tier.
