Microsoft Eyes September Launch for Maia 300 AI Chip

Microsoft is accelerating development of its own AI accelerators for Azure data centers as it seeks to curb reliance on Nvidia’s costly processors. The Maia program is central to Microsoft’s effort to gain more control over computing capacity and expenses, while offering competitive cloud infrastructure to major artificial intelligence customers including Anthropic.

Microsoft could unveil its next-generation Maia 300 as early as September 2026, according to a US media report. The company has also discussed production capacity with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. for more than 300,000 chips in 2027, potentially marking a sharp expansion of its in-house silicon output. The capacity plan, launch timing and customer adoption have yet to be confirmed.
