Web3 Venture Funds Race to Stand Out in Crowded Market
Web3 venture funds are struggling to distinguish themselves as managers recycle claims about ecosystem access, founder support and superior networks when pitching limited partners. Tobias Bauer, co-founder of TBV, argues those promises are no longer defensible because rivals make the same assertions. Emerging managers instead need measurable infrastructure, proprietary data or specialized capabilities that turn the fund itself into a product with utility beyond capital.
CoinDesk published Bauer’s commentary on April 19, 2026, and updated it on April 27. TBV said its event series attracted more than 43,000 attendees and over 100 partners in 2025, generating data for TBX, its AI-driven deal engine. Outlier Ventures has built an accelerator-led platform spanning more than 300 portfolio companies, while Paradigm differentiates through technical contributions to protocols. The article disclosed no fundraising amount.
