AI Disinformation Fuels Trust Crisis as Experts Back Zero-Knowledge Proofs

The rise of autonomous AI agents and generative content has flooded the internet with disinformation that conventional AI detection technology can no longer effectively contain. Cryptography startup Succinct Labs raised $55 million in a Paradigm-led Series A round in March 2024. Experts say verifying provenance with zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) is key to rebuilding trust online.

In the latest development, CoinDesk published a July 18, 2026 opinion column by Succinct Labs Chief Growth Officer Brian Trunzo warning that AI was destroying the internet. He argued that conventional detection methods had failed and called on the U.S. Congress to enact laws requiring high-risk AI agents to use cryptographic proofs, using mathematics to rebuild trust.
