Samsung, SK Hynix and Others to Invest 392 Trillion Won in South Korea’s Chungcheong Advanced-Industry Plan
South Korea’s advanced industries and resources have long been concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area, creating regional imbalances and limiting other regions’ ability to participate in the AI supply chain. The government’s Next-Generation Advanced Industry Development Strategy for the Chungcheong Region will connect semiconductor, display, secondary-battery and biotechnology clusters. It aims to turn Chungcheong into a manufacturing and innovation hub for the AI era while promoting more balanced national development.
The South Korean government unveiled the plan in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, on July 2, 2026. Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Celltrion and other companies will invest a combined approximately 392 trillion won, or about NT$8 trillion. Samsung plans to invest 140 trillion won, SK Hynix 100 trillion won and Celltrion 2 trillion won, with another approximately 150 trillion won earmarked for AI data centers. The government will provide fiscal, tax and infrastructure support.
