Google Integrates Canva and Other Apps Into AI Mode for Direct Task Execution
As generative AI advances, search engines are evolving from information-retrieval tools into action-oriented agents. Google is developing AI assistants that can perform tasks on users’ behalf by connecting third-party software through its search interface, eliminating the need to switch between apps. The shift is significant for the technology industry, marking search services’ evolution from question-answering tools into personal-assistant ecosystems capable of handling everyday tasks.
On July 16, 2026, Google upgraded Search’s AI Mode with initial U.S. integrations for Canva, valued at $26 billion, YouTube Music and Instacart. Users can ask AI directly within Search to design a flyer, create a playlist or add ingredients to a shopping cart. The English-language feature is available on the web and in the iOS app.

The history behind this eventGoogle Expands AI Mode Restaurant Reservations to Eight Countries
Google began testing an agentic restaurant reservation feature in Search’s AI Mode in the United States in August 2025, integrating platforms including OpenTable, Resy and Tock. Users can specify the party size, date, time and cuisine in natural language, and the system searches multiple websites for real-time availability before directing them to book. The feature marks a shift in search from providing answers to serving as an agentic AI gateway for carrying out real-world tasks.
Google announced on April 10, 2026, that the feature would expand outside the United States for the first time, adding eight markets: Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Five are in the Asia-Pacific region. Signed-in users aged 18 or older can make requests through the English-language version of AI Mode on mobile devices or desktop computers, with the system filtering options and helping them complete the reservation process.
