Record Taiwan Stock Turnover Halts Pocket Securities Trading; FSC Probes Major Control Lapse
Pocket Securities is an online-focused brokerage through which investors place orders via an app. The total value of trades a brokerage may report each day is capped at a limit approved by the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The incident was not simply a case of record turnover overwhelming the system: risk controls failed to take effect before client orders breached the limit, affecting trading access and investor interests.
Turnover on Taiwan’s main stock market reached NT$1.47 trillion on May 26, 2026. By 9:40 a.m., cumulative buy and sell orders at Pocket Securities had reached NT$6.139 billion, exceeding its NT$4.77 billion cap. The brokerage stopped accepting orders for TWSE-listed shares during the session, while OTC and emerging-market trading remained unaffected. The Financial Supervisory Commission’s Securities and Futures Bureau and the Taiwan Stock Exchange have launched investigations. The exchange may impose a breach penalty of up to NT$2 million, while the FSC may levy a fine of up to NT$6 million if internal-control violations are confirmed.
