Truist Financial Posts First-Quarter Profit Growth, Raises Long-Term Profitability Target

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-17 · Last active 2026-04-17

Truist Financial is a major U.S. regional bank whose earnings are driven primarily by lending spreads and fee income from businesses including wealth management and investment banking. Its first-quarter results are closely watched because a recovery in average loans and growth in noninterest income can provide a gauge of corporate and consumer credit demand. They also reflect the bank’s ability to deploy capital as the interest-rate environment shifts.

Truist Financial reported first-quarter 2026 net income of $1.48 billion, up 17.5% from the same period in 2025 and above market expectations. The bank also raised its long-term return on tangible common equity, or ROTCE, target to 16%–18% and plans to increase its 2026 share repurchases by another $1 billion.
