Taiwan FSC Convenes Bank Independent Directors to Discuss Three Supervisory Priorities
Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission convened independent directors from all domestic banks for the first time. Corporate governance in the banking sector is crucial to the stability of the national financial system, while independent directors play a key role on bank boards by overseeing ethical management and protecting shareholders’ interests. As market conditions grow increasingly complex, stronger direct communication between regulators and independent directors can help them fulfill their oversight duties and strengthen internal controls.
The FSC held the inaugural meeting on July 17, 2026, focusing on three supervisory priorities: strengthening ethical management, enhancing the role of independent directors and promoting financial inclusion. The regulator stressed that its supervision would remain lawful, fair and reasonable, regardless of the backgrounds of those in charge of financial institutions. It said the first gathering of its kind was intended to reinforce Taiwan’s financial defenses.
