British Virgin Islands Emerges as Key Global Hub for Crypto and Tokenized Treasuries
The British Virgin Islands has drawn on its longstanding foundations in offshore finance and trust law to transform itself in recent years into a major global registration hub for cryptocurrency and real-world asset tokenization. Since passing the Virtual Assets Service Providers Act in 2022, the territory has attracted major virtual-asset service providers including Kraken and Bitstamp. It offers companies a legal framework for international compliance and has established a distinctive role as a legal and administrative headquarters for the Web3 industry.
According to RWA.xyz's latest report covering data through 2026, the British Virgin Islands has issued more than 10% of the world's tokenized U.S. Treasuries, ranking second only to the United States among issuing jurisdictions. The territory also leads the world with more than 300 tokenized securities, while its stablecoin market capitalization has surpassed $1.2 billion. These metrics show that the territory has evolved from a conventional offshore tax haven into a key center for real-world asset tokenization and digital finance.
