Red Hat Releases Tank OS to Bolster Security for Enterprise AI Agent Deployments

Enterprises deploying AI agents must control model access, limit the scope of code execution and manage the risks of system changes. Red Hat engineers developed the open-source Tank OS prototype to support secure enterprise deployments of agents such as OpenClaw. Its container isolation and immutable architecture reduce the risk of agents gaining elevated host privileges or modifying systems at will.

As of July 20, 2026, Tank OS had been released publicly. It is built around the Red Hat-led Podman container technology, allowing OpenClaw to run without root privileges. The system also uses image versioning to lock down environments, support consistent deployments and enable update rollbacks. The project remains an operating-system prototype, with no commercial timeline, investment amount or formal product plan announced.
