New Youth Housing Loan 2.0 Plan Expected to Be Finalized by End-June

Taiwan’s Ministry of Finance launched the New Youth Housing Loan program on Aug. 1, 2023. It currently offers loans of up to NT$10 million with terms of up to 40 years, a maximum five-year grace period and interest subsidies. The program, which is due to expire on July 31, 2026, is intended both to help first-time homebuyers and support housing demand.

The ministry expects to announce the final New Youth Housing Loan 2.0 plan by the end of June 2026. Proposals under consideration include shortening the grace period to three years, ending interest subsidies and returning rates to market-based pricing. Officials are also weighing an increase to the NT$10 million loan ceiling and possible additional support for married couples and families with children, while seeking to reduce the long-term credit risks posed by lengthy loans to older borrowers.
