London Stock Exchange Targets 2027 Launch for Overnight Venue

2 reports · First detected 2026-07-21 · Last active 2026-07-22

Traditional exchanges are extending hours as cryptocurrency markets and newer platforms reset investor expectations for near-continuous access. Pressure is coming from retail traders as well as institutions seeking liquidity across Asia, Europe and the United States. For London Stock Exchange, an overnight venue would modernize market infrastructure without altering its main session, while helping London defend its role as a global financial center and laying the groundwork for more digital, automated and agent-based trading.

London Stock Exchange said on July 21, 2026, it plans to launch LSE 24 in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval, following client testing by the end of 2026. The separate venue will operate on weekdays from 5 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. London time, with a 30-minute pause from 6:30 p.m. for end-of-day processing. Exchange Traded Products will be the first asset class, with equities potentially following, while the Main Market retains its 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. session.

The Backstory

The history behind this event
London Stock Exchange Plans 24/5 Trading Venue for 20272026-08-24 · 1 reports · similarity 0.83

The London Stock Exchange has traditionally operated around fixed UK market hours, requiring investors in other regions to align trading with the London session. Demand for access across time zones is pushing major exchanges to extend their schedules, as digital markets make continuous execution more practical. A round-the-clock venue could broaden international participation and reduce delays in responding to developments outside regular hours.

The London Stock Exchange plans to launch a new venue called LSE 24 in 2027, offering trading 24 hours a day, five days a week. The platform is intended to remove the constraints of conventional opening hours and serve investors across global time zones. LSE has not disclosed a specific launch date or further operating details, leaving the product scope and rollout timetable to be clarified before its planned debut.
