Generative AI Glut Makes ‘Digital Authenticity’ and C2PA Content Credentials Standard Features

The proliferation of generative AI tools such as Sora 2 and Midjourney has flooded images and videos with low-cost, overly polished aesthetics, gradually fueling visual fatigue. “Digital authenticity,” conveyed through imperfections, traces of real-world settings and human judgment, has consequently become scarce. This has also increased the commercial value of trusted information about content provenance and production processes.

By 2026, the C2PA Content Credentials protocol, developed by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity, had gradually become a standard hardware feature. The system uses cryptographically secured data to record where content was captured, how it was edited and the extent of AI involvement, turning authenticity from a subjective impression into a verifiable and quantifiable technical attribute. Reports have not disclosed the cost of implementation.
