Microsoft Pulls Mico From Copilot Voice Mode

Microsoft introduced Mico in October 2025 as an optional animated presence for Copilot Voice, giving its AI assistant real-time expressions, color changes and gestures during spoken conversations. The character was part of the company’s effort to make voice interactions feel more natural and personable, while recalling earlier Microsoft assistants such as Clippy and Cortana. Its removal matters because it narrows Mico’s role less than a year after launch and signals another shift in how Microsoft presents Copilot to consumers.

In August 2026, Microsoft said Mico would no longer serve as the visual face of general Copilot voice chats and would instead be used in Learn Live, its voice-enabled learning experience. The change leaves standard Copilot Voice without the expressive character, while preserving Mico as a study companion that can guide users through lessons and concepts. No financial terms were involved. The move comes roughly 10 months after Mico’s October 2025 debut, ending its brief run as Copilot’s broad consumer avatar.
