TikTok Explores Peer-to-Peer Payments in Direct Messages

4 reports · First detected 2026-08-19 · Last active 2026-08-21

TikTok is exploring a peer-to-peer payment feature that could let users send money through direct messages, according to Bloomberg’s review of code in the U.S. version of its iPhone app. The move could extend the short-video platform further into financial services, deepen user engagement and build on TikTok Pay, the company’s existing payments tool that would be expected to process the transactions.

The code indicates that the P2P feature remains under exploration rather than ready for release. A TikTok spokesperson said the company was not testing it in the United States or any other market when the report was published. TikTok has disclosed no launch date, transaction limit, fee structure or supported payment amount, and the presence of code does not mean the company has committed to introducing the service.
