Bitcoin Tops $82,000, Coinbase Leads Crypto Stocks Higher as CLARITY Act Advances
Bitcoin is the world’s largest crypto asset by market capitalization, and its price swings often drive shares of exchanges such as Coinbase and other digital-asset-related companies. The U.S. CLARITY Act seeks to establish a regulatory framework for the crypto market, with its legislative progress affecting industry compliance and institutional capital inflows. The listing of AI chipmaker Cerebras also boosted risk appetite in technology stocks.
On May 14, 2026, Bitcoin briefly topped $82,000 before retreating to $81,500, remaining up 2.5% over 24 hours. Coinbase shares gained 8%, Strategy rose 7% and Bitmine advanced 5.6%. The U.S. Senate Banking Committee advanced the CLARITY Act by a 15–9 vote, while Cerebras shares climbed as much as 100% above their IPO price intraday on their first day of trading.

The history behind this eventBitcoin Tops $80,000, Fueling Crypto Stock Rebound
Bitcoin’s return above $80,000 underscored the increasingly tight link between digital assets and traditional capital markets. Shares of exchanges, miners and corporate Bitcoin holders often amplify moves in the token because their revenue, reserves and financing capacity are tied to crypto prices. Expanding stablecoin supply and onchain activity have also strengthened the market’s liquidity base, supporting renewed investor appetite after a period of risk aversion.
Bitcoin crossed back above $80,000 in April 2025 as broader market sentiment improved, triggering double-digit gains in US-listed crypto stocks including Coinbase and MARA Holdings. The rally showed investors were rebuilding exposure through both tokens and publicly traded companies. At the same time, crypto businesses continued pursuing listings, fundraising and other Wall Street transactions, signaling that the recovery was extending beyond spot prices into the industry’s wider capital-markets pipeline.
Crypto Stocks Surge as Bitcoin Breaks Above $72,000
Bitcoin repeatedly stalled in the $70,000–$72,000 range after tumbling on February 5, 2026. That resistance zone is crucial to whether the rebound can continue and has implications for the share prices of Bitcoin holder Strategy, exchange Coinbase and cryptocurrency miners. Crypto assets had significantly underperformed other assets over the previous two months, putting the prospect of renewed capital inflows in focus.
Bitcoin rose as high as $72,600 on March 4, 2026. Coinbase opened 12% higher and reclaimed $200, Strategy gained nearly 9%, and miners including Bitfarms, Hut 8 and IREN advanced 6%–10%. Bitcoin climbed another 2% on March 13 to break above $72,000, while futures open interest rose 5% to $107.6 billion. The market is watching whether the cryptocurrency can clear $74,000 and push toward $80,000.
