Musk Rolls Out X Topic Filter, Stoking Anxiety Across Crypto Community
X has long been a key channel for cryptocurrency exchanges, projects and KOLs to publish news, build communities and reach retail audiences. Musk has repeatedly adjusted the platform's recommendation algorithm since taking control and is now returning more control over content selection to users. If large numbers of mainstream users actively filter out crypto, industry participants could lose post reach and find it harder to take their messages beyond their existing echo chambers.
On April 22, 2026, X introduced “Snooze Topics” for Premium subscribers, initially on iOS and the web, allowing users to hide selected topics from the “For You” feed for 24 hours. On April 30, product head Nikita Bier published rankings from more than a week after launch: cryptocurrency was first, politics second and the Iran conflict third. X has not disclosed usage figures, traffic losses for exchanges or any related financial amounts.
