Uber Launches uSpec AI Agent to Automate Design Component Specifications
Uber’s design system must support iOS, Android and web products. Designers previously spent weeks manually documenting component structures, Design Tokens and accessibility requirements. When documentation falls behind, design and engineering implementations can diverge, making automated specification generation critical to cross-platform consistency and collaboration.
Uber’s design systems team recently launched uSpec, an AI agent that uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to read Figma design files directly and generate complete component specifications within minutes. The specifications cover structures, Tokens and accessibility requirements across all three platforms. uSpec currently runs only within Uber’s internal environment to reduce the risk of design data leaks. Reports did not disclose an exact launch date or development cost.
