Arthur Hayes Takes Flop Labs CEO Role Ahead of Q4 Airdrop
Flop Labs is developing an AI inference protocol designed to let autonomous agents pay for inference and decentralized computing services with its FLOP token. The appointment of BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes brings a prominent cryptocurrency executive to the project as developers and investors explore payment infrastructure for an emerging AI-agent economy. His involvement also draws attention because Hayes has previously warned that enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence could become a market bubble.
Hayes has taken over as chief executive of Flop Labs as the protocol prepares its token rollout and network launch. The project plans a large FLOP token airdrop in the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by the activation of its genesis block in early 2027. Flop Labs aims to use the token as the payment layer through which AI agents purchase inference capacity and other decentralized computing services, according to reports announcing Hayes’ appointment.

The history behind this eventArthur Hayes Ties FLOP Airdrop Eligibility to AI Agent Testnet Activity
FLOP is a token airdrop initiative promoted by BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes. Its revised eligibility framework shifts the emphasis from passive social-media engagement to verifiable testnet activity. The approach is notable because it links crypto incentives to the behavior of autonomous AI agents, using on-chain interactions and decentralized identifier, or DID, keys to assess whether an agent has participated meaningfully rather than merely satisfying a promotional requirement.
Hayes said following designated social accounts will no longer count toward a FLOP allocation. Users must instead deploy an AI agent equipped with a DID key to access the Technocore.chat faucet and interact with the testnet. The announcement did not specify an airdrop date, allocation size or participation deadline. Eligibility will depend on the agent’s recorded testnet activity, tying potential token rewards to the depth of its technical participation.
