a16z Co-Founder Marc Andreessen Named Co-Leader of Fed AI Task Force
The rapid development of general-purpose technologies such as artificial intelligence is profoundly reshaping the global economy and policy debate. The US Federal Reserve, the world’s most influential central bank, has traditionally based monetary policy decisions on inflation and employment data. Yet the long-term effects of AI on labor markets and productivity remain highly uncertain. Bringing a technology-frontier perspective into macroeconomic decision-making has therefore become a key step in helping the Fed understand future economic trends and adjust its policy framework.
The Federal Reserve formally launched its “Productivity and Employment” task force in July 2026 and appointed Marc Andreessen, co-founder of Silicon Valley venture capital firm a16z, as a co-leader. The group will assess AI’s impact on employment and productivity. Its members also include experts from AI startup Anthropic and Microsoft, signaling that the central bank is moving faster to incorporate the practical perspectives of technology companies into monetary policymaking.
