Taiwan FSC Extends Kaohsiung Asset-Management Pilot by One Year, Drafts Virtual-Asset Law
Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission is developing an Asian Asset Management Center, with a Kaohsiung special zone serving as a testing ground for financial services aimed at attracting domestic and overseas capital and high-net-worth clients. The pilot covers family offices, cross-border financial services and insurance products. As the virtual-asset market expands, the FSC is also drafting dedicated legislation to establish oversight of service providers and investor protections.
FSC Chairperson Peng Chin-lung announced at a 2026 Dragon Boat Festival press conference that the Kaohsiung pilot would be extended by one year to mid-2027. Family-office advisory services and innovative high-savings insurance policies are expected to launch in the third quarter of 2026, while cross-border services will be opened gradually. The proposed virtual-asset services law could pass during the current legislative session, and financial-sector giveback guidelines are expected to be released in July 2026.
