Bitcoin Could Surge on Quantum-Resistance Roadmap, Edwards Says
Bitcoin relies on elliptic-curve cryptography to secure wallets and authorize transactions, leaving exposed public keys potentially vulnerable if quantum computers become powerful enough to derive private keys. Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments, argues that the absence of a credible migration plan from Bitcoin Core has become a material valuation overhang. The debate matters because any network-wide shift to quantum-resistant signatures would require technical consensus, code changes and time for holders to move funds.
In an interview published July 24, 2026, Edwards said Bitcoin could reprice higher very quickly if developers outlined a roadmap within two or three months and targeted implementation over the following two years. He predicted a double-digit percentage gain as risk was discounted almost overnight. Bitcoin was trading near $65,270, about 49% below its October 2025 record of $126,100. Edwards estimated the token was roughly 40% below fair value, with quantum uncertainty accounting for about a 30% discount.
