Techcombank Seeks $2 Billion Deal With First Major Foreign Investor

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-26 · Last active 2026-08-26

Techcombank, formally Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank, is one of Vietnam’s leading private-sector lenders. Bringing in its first major foreign shareholder could give the bank additional capital, international banking expertise and cross-border capabilities, while offering an overseas lender a sizable foothold in Vietnam’s fast-growing financial market.

Reuters reported on Aug. 26 that Techcombank was holding separate talks with France’s BNP Paribas and South Korea’s KB Kookmin Bank over a potential 15% stake sale. The transaction could be worth as much as $2 billion. Discussions remain ongoing, and the bank has not announced a preferred buyer, binding agreement or expected completion date.
