Meta Tracks Employee Computer Activity to Train AI Agents to Mimic Human Behavior

Meta rolled out MCI on company computers used by its U.S. employees in April 2026, recording mouse movements, clicks, keyboard input and screenshots from workplace software. The data was intended to train AI agents to mimic human actions under its Agent Transformation Accelerator program. The initiative raised concerns about workplace privacy, data security and automation, prompting more than 1,600 employees to sign a petition opposing it.

On June 22, 2026, Meta suspended MCI and opened an investigation after employees reported a high-priority security incident. An internal notice showed that sensitive employee data collected by the program had been exposed across about 45,000 Hive tables because of a permissions issue and could potentially have been accessed by personnel inside the company. Meta said there was no indication that any data had been improperly accessed and has not announced when the investigation will be completed or the program restarted.
