ByteDance Valuation Rises to $550 Billion as General Atlantic Plans Stake Sale

1 reports · First detected 2026-02-25 · Last active 2026-02-25

TikTok parent ByteDance is one of the world’s most valuable privately held technology companies. Because its shares are not publicly traded, secondary-market transactions are often viewed as a gauge of investor confidence. General Atlantic first invested in the company in 2017, when it was valued at about $20 billion. Regulatory uncertainty eased after the U.S. government approved the sale of TikTok’s U.S. operations in January 2026.

Reuters reported on February 25, 2026, that General Atlantic had begun selling part of its ByteDance stake in recent weeks, targeting completion in March at a $550 billion valuation. That represents a 66% increase from the valuation of more than $330 billion in ByteDance’s 2025 share buyback and is about 15% above the $480 billion valuation in secondary-market transactions in November of that year. The size of the planned sale has not been disclosed.
