Viral ‘Energym’ AI Job-Loss Satire Fuels Crypto Push for User-Owned AI Agents

Belgian studio AiCandy’s satirical film “Energym” is set in 2036, when AI has replaced 80% of jobs and unemployed people pedal stationary bicycles to generate electricity. Aged versions of Musk, Altman and Bezos underscore anxieties about employment and the concentration of technological power. The film has also drawn attention to Olas’ model for user-owned AI agents; core contributors to the project raised $13.8 million in February 2025.

Before the report was published on March 2, 2026, Block announced on February 27 that it would cut more than 4,000 jobs, or nearly 40% of its entire workforce. U.S. finance and insurance job openings also fell to 134,000 in December 2025, down 50% from a year earlier and the lowest level in a decade. Valory CEO David Minarsch seized on the moment to promote Olas, arguing that users should directly own their AI agents.
