OpenAI Launches Deployment Company to Help Businesses Adopt AI, Agrees to Acquire Tomoro

The main obstacle to enterprise adoption of generative AI has shifted from gaining access to models to integrating them with data, tools, governance systems and core workflows. OpenAI has therefore established OpenAI Deployment Company, which it owns and controls. Its embedded engineers will help customers turn proofs of concept into measurable systems suitable for daily operations.

OpenAI announced the company's launch on May 11, 2026, with more than $4 billion in initial investment and a pre-money valuation of $10 billion. TPG led the investment, with 19 institutions participating, including BBVA and Goldman Sachs. OpenAI also agreed to acquire British AI consultancy Tomoro for an undisclosed sum. The deal is expected to close within months, with about 150 engineers and deployment specialists set to join.

OpenAI is shifting its growth focus toward the enterprise market, led by Codex, an AI tool that can write, review and understand code. Adoption by large companies requires integration with legacy systems, data governance and workflow changes. Working with consulting firms could help customers move more quickly from pilot projects to formal deployment, while strengthening OpenAI’s competitive position after Anthropic’s Claude made inroads into the enterprise market.

OpenAI said on April 21, 2026, that it was expanding partnerships with Accenture, Capgemini, CGI, Cognizant, Infosys, PwC and Tata Consultancy Services. It also launched Codex Labs and will embed specialists with customers. The number of weekly Codex developers rose from more than 3 million to more than 4 million within two weeks. Financial terms of the partnerships were not disclosed.
