Google, OpenAI and Other Tech Giants Commit $12.5 Million to Bolster Alpha-Omega Open-Source Security Initiative

Alpha-Omega is an open-source security initiative under the Linux Foundation that reduces supply-chain risks by funding audits, assigning security experts and supporting package ecosystems. As AI accelerates vulnerability discovery, maintainers are being inundated with automated reports and often lack the tools and personnel to assess and address them. Cross-industry investment is therefore critical to the resilience of global digital infrastructure.

On March 17, 2026, the Linux Foundation announced that Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, GitHub and Microsoft had committed $12.5 million. Managed by Alpha-Omega and OpenSSF, the funding will help 10,000 critical projects adopt AI security capabilities, enabling 100,000 maintainers to patch vulnerabilities more quickly.
