Hoskinson Warns Quantum Threat Could Cost Bitcoin Its Lead

Quantum computing is viewed as a long-term existential risk for public blockchains because sufficiently powerful machines could undermine cryptographic protections used to secure wallets and transactions. Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson argues that governance and the ability to coordinate network-wide upgrades will be crucial if that threat becomes practical, potentially reshaping the competitive order of the cryptocurrency market.

Hoskinson said Cardano’s governance framework and on-chain upgrade capabilities leave it better positioned to respond to severe technical threats. Bitcoin, by contrast, could lose its top market position if its decentralized governance proves unable to coordinate changes required to withstand quantum attacks, he said.
