Hoskinson Says Quantum Governance Test Could Unseat Bitcoin

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-25 · Last active 2026-07-25

Bitcoin’s dominance rests partly on confidence that its decentralized network can preserve security as technology evolves. Advances in quantum computing could eventually challenge cryptographic systems used to protect blockchain assets, making coordinated software upgrades a potentially existential issue. Because Bitcoin changes through broad agreement among developers, miners, node operators and users, its ability to respond may prove as important as the technical fix itself.

Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson said Cardano’s governance framework and on-chain upgrade capabilities leave it better positioned to confront threats such as quantum attacks. He warned that Bitcoin could surrender its No. 1 market position if its governance process fails to approve and implement necessary protections. As of July 25, 2026, the cited report provided no deadline for such a threat, probability estimate or monetary assessment of the potential exposure.
