XREX Urges Taiwan to Develop Stablecoin as Securities Tokenization Accelerates

2 reports · First detected 2026-09-17 · Last active 2026-09-18

Global capital markets are moving stocks, securities and real-world assets onto blockchains, aiming to improve settlement efficiency, extend trading hours and deepen cross-border liquidity. XREX Group Chief Executive Wayne Huang said Taiwan risks losing the pricing role and liquidity of its domestic assets if tokenized markets rely primarily on foreign-currency stablecoins. A New Taiwan dollar stablecoin could provide local market participants with a native unit for on-chain pricing and settlement.

Huang recently urged Taiwan to begin preparing such a stablecoin before tokenized securities become more widely adopted. Exchanges in the United States and South Korea are also working with virtual-asset companies on tokenized equities and infrastructure for round-the-clock markets. The reports did not identify the participating exchanges or companies, disclose investment amounts, provide a specific announcement date, or set a timetable for launching the proposed New Taiwan dollar stablecoin.

Stablecoins combine the price stability of fiat currency with blockchain-based settlement, offering potential gains in transaction speed and cross-border efficiency. Pegatron Chairman T.H. Tung said a New Taiwan dollar stablecoin should focus less on competing in everyday retail payments and more on business-to-business transactions and real-world asset tokenization, or RWA. Those uses could give Taiwan’s manufacturers and financial institutions a practical route into digital finance.

Tung recently identified B2B settlement and RWA as the two most promising areas for a New Taiwan dollar stablecoin, citing opportunities to improve corporate payments, asset liquidity and cross-border transactions. He also cautioned that Taiwan’s virtual-asset framework must balance financial oversight with market efficiency, privacy and individual freedom. The comments frame stablecoin development as infrastructure for businesses and tokenized assets rather than a race to replace existing consumer payment systems.
