Chip-Testing Giant Advantest Hit by Ransomware Attack, Putting AI Supply Chain in Focus

Advantest is a global leader in automated semiconductor testing equipment, with products used to test wafers and finished chips. Its systems are embedded deep in the advanced-process supply chain that includes TSMC's foundry operations and NVIDIA AI chips. Because testing equipment is critical to yields and shipments, a cyberattack on a key supplier has raised concerns about production stability and the security of confidential customer information.

Advantest detected unusual activity on February 15, 2026, and confirmed on February 19 that ransomware had been implanted in parts of its network. Customer and employee data may have been accessed or stolen, but the company did not disclose the number of people affected or the ransom demanded. Advantest said on March 4 that production, shipments and customer service remained normal and that the incident was not expected to have a material impact on its financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2026.
