Mastercard Launches AP4M for Autonomous AI Agent Payments and Stablecoin Settlement
Mastercard has launched Agent Pay for Machines, or AP4M, targeting autonomous purchasing, subscription services and high-frequency micropayments by AI agents. The system integrates traditional payment networks with stablecoin settlement, allowing machines to transact directly under predefined authorization and risk-control rules and reducing the need for manual approval of each payment.
As of July 20, 2026, more than 30 companies, including Coinbase, Ripple, Solana and traditional financial institutions, had signed on as early adopters of AP4M. Mastercard said the system allows AI agents to execute transactions autonomously and, for the first time, includes a stablecoin payment channel. It has not yet announced a formal date for a full rollout or disclosed transaction values, fees or processing volumes.
