Mastercard

Mastercard is a global payments network and financial technology company whose business spans card transactions, cross-border payments and digital financial infrastructure. It has recently expanded contactless payment use on the Taipei Metro while investing in AI agent commerce, stablecoin settlement and onchain gateways to crypto assets. It has also obtained a New York BitLicense. At the same time, Mastercard faces competition from domestic European payment systems and payment protectionism in the UK, and is reportedly considering the sale of Vocalink. Its moves illustrate how traditional payment providers are responding to regulation, regional competition and new forms of digital transactions.
