Starling Launches Agentic AI Assistant for Business Customers
Starling Bank is expanding its use of artificial intelligence in business banking as digital lenders seek to move beyond accounts and payments into more automated financial management. The UK bank’s new Starling Assistant uses agentic AI, a form of the technology designed to handle multi-step tasks with greater autonomy, and is intended to help business customers manage finances and day-to-day operations more efficiently.
Starling said on Aug. 25, 2026, that the assistant was being made available to all of its business customers. The bank did not disclose the underlying model provider, pricing, a detailed list of supported tasks or a phased rollout schedule. It also gave no forecast for adoption, financial returns or measurable cost savings from the service, leaving its practical impact to be assessed after deployment.

The history behind this eventStarling Bank App Launches Agentic AI Financial Assistant
Starling Bank launched Spending Intelligence on June 10, 2025, allowing customers to query their spending in natural language. It has since extended eight years of AI development into Agentic AI capable of carrying out tasks. The move marks a shift in banking AI from providing analysis to taking action, with user confirmation and data segregation used to manage risks.
On March 20, 2026, Starling became the first UK bank to launch an in-app agentic AI money manager, Starling Assistant. It was initially made available to personal current-account customers, with business and joint accounts to follow. Users can set savings goals, schedule bill payments and search transactions by text or voice. For example, they can create a £500 savings goal for a July trip to Paris and arrange automatic transfers. The system uses Google Gemini, with data kept in Google Cloud and not used for training.
