Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson Weighs In on Decentralized Computing and Cloud Risks
Although decentralization is central to blockchain, nodes and applications still rely heavily on cloud platforms such as Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, raising concerns about concentrated hardware and operational control. Service disruptions, customer censorship or attacks involving a small number of providers could affect multiple blockchain networks at once, putting the true decentralization of computing infrastructure under scrutiny.
At Consensus Hong Kong 2026, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson argued that advanced cryptography, multiparty computation (MPC) and confidential computing could reduce the risks posed by centralized cloud providers. More recent commentary has questioned that view, arguing that these technologies cannot eliminate the concentration of physical servers and administrative control. The remarks did not involve any investment or transaction amounts.
