BlackRock, Goldman Sachs and Other Financial Giants Join UK Tokenization Taskforce
Real-world asset (RWA) tokenization uses blockchain technology to digitize traditional assets, potentially increasing liquidity and reducing transaction costs. Analysts forecast that the global tokenized RWA market will reach $88 trillion by 2035. Successful adoption could reshape the infrastructure underpinning traditional wholesale financial markets and has become a key battleground in the race for global fintech leadership.
The UK government formally established a tokenization taskforce in July 2026, bringing together 54 financial heavyweights including BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley. The group will conduct a year-long study of financial applications, beginning with real-world trials of tokenized repurchase agreements. It aims to generate as much as £33 billion in annual economic output for the UK by 2035.
