First Bank Signs Finance for Biodiversity Initiative, Becoming First Taiwanese Company to Commit
The Finance for Biodiversity (FfB) initiative aims to help financial institutions identify the risks that natural-capital loss poses to lending and investment, while directing funds toward nature-positive activities. First Bank is implementing the commitment through its “F.I.R.S.T. Sustainability Blueprint” and sustainable lending and investment policies. As the first Taiwanese company to sign, it is setting an example for the financial sector.
First Bank announced on May 21, 2026, that it had joined FfB. Starting this year, it is assessing industries with high nature-related risks and attending international workshops each month. The bank will incorporate deforestation risk into lending and add water-risk management for water-intensive industries to its investment policies. It also supports companies in adopting water-saving production processes that reduce water consumption by about 25%. No financial commitment was disclosed.
