Apple Blocks $2.2 Billion in App Store Fraud in 2025 as AI-Era Threats Mount

Apple’s App Store is a major global platform for digital software and payments, but it has long faced threats including fraudulent transactions, fake apps, bogus reviews and account abuse. Generative AI has lowered the barriers to fabricating content and creating accounts at scale, making fraud easier to expand. Platform review capabilities are therefore directly tied to protecting users’ assets and the security of the developer ecosystem.

Apple’s latest figures show that the App Store prevented more than $2.2 billion in fraudulent transactions in 2025 and blocked about 1.1 billion fraudulent accounts. As fake apps and reviews proliferate rapidly in the AI era, Apple is combining AI models, automated detection and human review to strengthen safeguards from account creation and app submission through payment processing.
