Taiwan Financial Groups’ Seven-Month Profit Hits Record NT$360.19 Billion
Taiwan’s financial holding companies draw earnings from banking margins, insurance investments and capital-market activity, making their results a key gauge of the financial sector’s resilience. The industry’s performance through July was particularly notable because global markets turned volatile during the month. Gains from equities and bonds, foreign-exchange movements and investment income continued to support the island’s largest financial groups.
The 10 Taiwanese financial holding companies reported combined net profit of NT$360.188 billion ($11 billion) for the seven months through July, up 68.09% from a year earlier and the highest ever for the period. Cathay Financial Holding led the group with cumulative after-tax profit of NT$87.34 billion. KGI Financial Holding, Mega Financial Holding and Hua Nan Financial Holdings also posted record earnings for the first seven months.
