Generative AI Demand Drives DISCO Shipments to Record High
Japan's DISCO is a major global supplier of wafer-cutting and grinding equipment, with its precision-processing machinery and consumables widely used in back-end semiconductor manufacturing. As generative AI fuels demand for high-performance chips and advanced packaging, capacity expansion is driving equipment investment. That has made DISCO's shipments an important gauge of conditions across the AI chip supply chain.
DISCO's quarterly shipments reached 116.5 billion yen from April through June 2026, surging 25.3% from the previous period to an all-time high. Growth was driven mainly by precision-processing equipment used to cut and grind wafers for AI-related chip production, as well as consumable tools used throughout the manufacturing process. The increase shows that generative AI demand is rapidly translating into semiconductor-equipment orders.
